I've come to the concusion that the only think of merit King wrote past Night Stand was The Mist.

I would agree except that it changes a character's background and relation to other characters (at least in the case of Fringilla). That's an early warning sign for anyone that enjoyed the books, letting us know we aren't going to be getting the same story.

See, I actually had this issue reading The Stand too. It was the sort of thing I expected to read in Redwall, not in a book written for actual adults.

I still haven't read The Witcher books, but yeah that's super silly. Extreme changes like that is why I couldn't enjoy GoT.
