I say stuff like this every year. I've learned that the people who will take that advice don't need to be told it, the people who need to be told it aren't gonna take the advice anyway, so now I just say a short Lord's Auditor's Prayer on April 14th.

Thy 1099s come. Thy taxes paid, out of my empty AF bank account.
Give us these pennies our daily wages; and forgive us our rejections, as we forgive hunt down those who reject us; and lead us not into bankruptcy, but deliver us from Brelig.

 

yup, I use FreeTaxUSA, but same difference. I put freelance data entry as job description (anyone else have a better title?), and just put all the income I made. It is what it is. The only things I claim are depreciation on equipment, the PC and printer, fancy headset/mic and transcription software. I'm not about to touch home office, paper, pens etc...

 

Audit was a terrible PITA, I had to literally show the IRS PICTURES OF MY HOME OFFICE to show that I was, in fact, complying (cant use it for personal use, can't let your dogs sleep in it at night, all sorts of shit). You can also end up with an irs bro IN YOUR HOUSE to inspect it. I think we'd all like to believe we're small potatoes, but the long hand of the irs man stuck his hand up my rear end like a sock puppet.

The bird don't fuck around with taxes.

 

Now you have to pay self employment tax on those earnings twice.
