I'm sure rents went up, my first place in SF was on the beach (Ocean Beach) and only $650 per month.

I'm wondering if my salary would have kept up with rent. I tried to buy a place before I left and at that time didn't make enough to qualify for a home loan (despite the fact that I was making damn good money, I was already priced out of buying a home in the areas I would live in). I wonder how long it would have taken before I couldn't have afforded to even rent. Or if the company I worked for would have kept up with the rising Bay Area inflation.
