I've been looking at half and quarter cows myself. The issue is, is that if you dont get a full half, usually the person who does a greater percentage of the animal gets most of the say in what they are to receive. I think it was roughly 1000 for the half cow.

It can vary quite a bit by farm. If you want the grass-fed stuff it costs more. I decided to go the grain-fed, plump this bastard up route. I am on peta's list now I think

This can be true, so if you can afford it, it's not a bad idea to get a bigger cut and go in on it with someone else. I had more choice than you would think for the 1/4, but I imagine there were more choices if I did 1/2
