01/17 - Thingama-Thursday!

this stuff is crazy to a northerner, at least to me. i thought the whole "extremism of the Bible belt" was exaggerated, but i guess not. church isn't a big thing like that here, you either go or don't, you can wear whatever without being publicly humiliated. i've made my rounds to different churches/denominations with friends/special events/etc and i've never seen anything extreme, not in Baptist churches or Catholic even.

the weirdest religious thing i ever encountered was a friend of mine invited me to pray around the flagpole at 6am or something the day after 9/11, and i said i couldn't because i didn't have my license yet (i actually got it that day after school) so i couldn't drive myself to get there in time, and she said "how can you live with yourself, how can you think you're a good person if you don't prioritize praying as a group with us for our country?" i was just like ooookay crazy byeeeee.

I lied, I emailed to inquire about what was wrong with the hit. I can't stand not knowing. Still blocking the requester, but I just can't stand the not knowing part.

 

The Bible belt is definitely alive and well in some parts, but most churches in my area are pretty easy going. I was just raised a certain way of dressing and acting at church and that has stuck with me. Thankfully, our church, at least I don't *feel* like, is neither judgemental or extreme. We're taught to love everyone, judge ourselves first and foremost, and be kind to others. I try to apply that to every part of my life. I fail sometimes (like posting certain questionable gifs)...as people in here have pointed out!!
