    In 2009, the average monthly income in India was Rs 3000 [1]. If we assume 160 hours worked per month, that comes out to Rs 18.75 per hour, which is about 0.40 USD per hour.

    Given that about half of the country lives on a dollar per person per day [2], this estimate sounds reasonable.
    Doesn't sound that bad.

    Simplicity. MTurk sells itself as a simple service, the recommend process for him is to just reject the whole thing & auto-republish (which is what he did).

    Requesters (by default) are as detached from us as people as you are from the people who put together your phone/shoes/<insertfavvytoythatdoesntexistwithoutthirdworldchildlabor>, 9/10 its no more malicious than you are booting up a PC that probably cost some third grader 2 fingers in Shanghai or whatever.

    Majority do enough research (or are part of labs that have gone through the growing pains already & now have 'best practices' for online crowdsourcing) that this isn't a huge problem every day anymore, thankfully.
