    Many years ago I had to pay a visit to a customer whose monitor was broken. This was pre-flat screens, an old CRT (might even have been a green screen, this was so long ago). I got there, screen was dark but power light was on. Fix - turn up brightness.

    A week later the same customer called back, assured me it was legitimately broken this time. I got there, he showed me the brightness dial was turned as hard as it could go, it wouldn't turn any further. Fix - turn the brightness knob the other way as he was turning it hard down to full dark, not hard up to full light.

    I felt bad for him, he was actually kind of knowledgeable and he felt so embarrassed.

    There was another customer I used to have where once a month, on average, I'd get a call from the CFO saying the network was down on his PC. I kid you not, every single time the fix was exactly the same. Drive 45 minutes there, see he'd been rearranging his desk again, move his PC six inches closer to the wall because he'd shifted it to a point where the network cable was stretched tight and the plug was half out of the NIC in the back of the machine. Bang, network starts working magically, all smiles, drive 45 minutes back to my office.

    Over the course of two years his machine was NEVER actually broken. EVERY time, the solution was to move the PC a few inches so the network cable wasn't stretched so tight and could actually sit in the plug properly.
