PSU is super ezpz to replace, actually. You just have to unplug everything, and the new PSU I just got has everything labelled, though my old one did not.

 

Exactly. Which is why I did not open that box. No way. Once I got it out of the case (it's on the very bottom) and saw it was a stand alone box with all these wires, I promptly replaced it back into the case (well, after blowing out the dust).

 

Yeah, no. I can't even tell where all these wires that are zip tied together go. There are a bazillion coming out of that box. The kid bought this computer, he can pay someone to fix it. Mama will replace case fans, but that is all!!

 

A power supply replacement takes about 10 mins. I would recommend ordering one online snap a picture of the inside and remove the old and replace with new. It isn't complicated and literally extremely difficult to screw up replacing.

 

With my old PSU, the wires led directly into the PSU box and I could only take them out on one end, my new one has cables that you can take out on both ends and are also labelled.

 

The labelling part is important, btw

I should state this is a prebuilt gaming PC the kid bought when he was 12. The inside isn't logical, and there are, I kid not, like 15 wires coming out of it in a zip tied bundle that then go around the back of the motherboard to the interior of the computer and then I don't freaking know where as I cannot trace them easily.

Just not confident in doing this myself.

 

It's a minimum charge item, should be able to be swapped while you wait. Go with a local shop and stay away from the 'squad' as they would screw up something else.

That's cable management to make the inside look more orderly. Also bundling the cables helps to improve airflow. You could cut the zip ties to make it easier to trace each wire.

 

Yeah, I'm going with one of the local places. Dunno which one yet, but I'll make some calls and see what they charge. There are a few nearby work so that will make life easier. Maybe I can drop it in the morning and pick up on lunch.

I'm just proud that with the help of this forum I'm now confident in replacing case fans!! Was totally going to pay someone to do that, but was convinced I could and I did.

If you have modular cables DO NOT reuse the old ones even if they fit into your new PSU.

8/10 times it will fry your computer.

I haven't seen many modular power supplies in prebuilds, though that's not to say it doesn't happen.
