There's a market for anything that looks "cute." Pretty much any (domesticated) animal can make a good pet, if you know what you're doing and some people like having "exotic" pets.

I went to school in Virginia and was introduced by one of my friends who was a local to cock breeding farms. Literally they have acres of little fenced off domes breeding cocks for the sole purpose of fighting. Pretty messed up shit.

 

That's how we ended up with potbelly pigs. Those don't make sense for food because they don't make enough meat. Only good as pets. Pigs are really smart too.
