Questions are intrusive and a little repetitive. Gives you code as if you are finished, but there are about 100 more questions after. Would recommend avoiding

We do EVERYTHING ourselves when it comes to repairs and building so he has a huge collection of shit but I honestly think it's "I am man. I need tools. Hear me roar" kind of thing but it keeps him happy and occupied (most of the time) so I get him a new tool every holiday. lol

That's what I'm thinking. I've built every PC I've ever had except one....

And the motherboard died 2 weeks in on the prebuilt.

Aren't the days of "building is always cheaper" kind of over for the most part? - unless you're content waiting a year to wait for your parts to go on sale.

There are a lot of really good sales that bring the prices of pre-built down to equal to or less than building - but provides you with warranties, OSs, peace of mind, and TIME, etc...

Not as accurate a statement as it once was. But you can pick exactly what you want in there with a build still, so there's that.

I used to be a BUILD IT BUILD IT! person, but then the cost savings got less and I had less free time to dick around with stuff, so I wanted warranty support.

I grew up with a man like that! My step dad had allthethings. He is extremely talented artistically in addition to being a construction worker and welder and iron worker, so he could make the most beautiful items out of wood. He had all the wood working things, too.

I know how to do things, I'm just getting to the point where I want to pay someone else and I don't have all the tools.

Though, right now, there are two things I need done that I don't know how to do and have no desire to youtube and figure out, so....after I do my taxes and I see if I'm getting a refund (I think so) and how much, I'll schedule the contractor to head over and do those things for me.

True, it's become much cheaper to just buy a prebuilt.. But it's the quality and choice of parts, like you can get the things you NEED and not pay for things you DON'T need type thing.. Still, BUILD

I've seen a few occasions where prebuilt is about equal to what I could build for. I do enjoy building the PCs, however. There is also the added perk of being able to order parts over a longer period of time instead of dropping a ton of cash at once.

Since I would be building two I would just order two pieces at a time over a month or two period so it might be better for me.

Plus I know exactly what goes in to the build.

This is the perk of living with an engineer who does a lot of restoration work- he has every tool that has ever existed and in the rare case he doesn't have something, they have it at his job!

He likes to fix things for me tho, even when I can myself, so I don't get to handy work as much anymore, but I did have to fix the freezer of the rental house fridge this week cause Matt was at work and I didn't want him stuck with it when he came home that night. Huzzah! I didnt even break anything!

Honestly, if I find out it IS the power supply that died on my wife's pc this morning I'll probably just save money and do a build in a few months.

I have this really bad feeling the motherboard finally died, however.
