I need a nap.

Having a sick kitty who sleeps on me and wakes me up every time she has to clear her airway is almost as bad as having a sick kid sleeping with me. (Almost, because with a sick kid there is medicine I usually have to fully wake up to administer in the middle of the night, but kitty had no such medicine.)

She sounded like Darth Vader when things weren't bad, and when things were bad I actually, in my half asleep state, wondered if I could do a tracheotomy on my cat should she stop being able to breathe, or if it would be difficult to do kitty CPR.

I'm sitting at my desk about ready to face plant into my keyboard.

 

when I moved into ma house. One of the first things I did was take out the glass shelves and clean them. I made the mistake of using hot water, so the sudden temperature sent a glass shard explosion across the whole house. Also didn't even have a shop vac at the time. Sucked. Replaced with a sheet of plexiglass

Other than that ma frigidaire is a pretty good guy. No frills, but gets the job done. Has the freezer on top which I prefer. I don't like side by side freezer and fridges that I did at ma old place. The limited width makes it difficult to store wide things like pizzas.

 

Well this is useful info. I have glass shelves, wash them often. Will now ensure I do not submerse them into too hot of water. I do have a shop vac but...would rather avoid the whole glass shard explosion.

 

A while back i had a neighbor ask me to help shop vac broken glass out of her sinks garbage disposal, i helped her out then went home and dumped it in to my own sink without thinking, hah, had to then suck the glass out of my own sink. good times.

 

I feel you so hard on the pizza thing.

 

This place has the side by side and it is DRIVING ME NUTS. Ma kitchenaid was specifically meant to accomodate sheet pans and stuff like that, so I'm used to being able to chill dough/freeze things/etc and I can't do it without a huge PITA with this side by side nonsense GE thing. The pizza thing too. I AM USED TO A CERTAIN TYPE OF KITCHEN APPLIANCE, OK?! I have crappy living room furniture and don't remotely care. Shallow sink that can hold like 3 dishes max, kinda annoying but whatever. CAN'T GET AN ENTIRE SHEET PAN IN MY FREEZER AT ONCE? RAGE! A shitty fridge sends me over the edge, man!

Here is how the wonderful IRB at Indiana University feels about fair compensation on surveys after I ripped them for having a 40 minute 1 dollar survey with a 5 minute unpaid screener.

If I correctly understand the concerns you have regarding this research project, they are related to the rate of payment given the length of the survey and the screening process which results in some workers not being able to complete the survey after they have initiated it. The survey includes a brief series of demographic questions to screen for the types of participants needed for the study. Screening questions are quite common to assist researchers in determining that only eligible subjects are participating in the research and to help ensure valid data is collected. Could you provide additional information about the concerns with the screening questions or screening process?


Regarding payment, research is not intended to be employment. Compensation offered for participation in research often does not reflect the opportunity cost or fair payment for the amount of time spent participating in the research. Many research studies that require significant investments of the participants’ time are reviewed and approved without offering any payment whatsoever. Our focus regarding payment is to ensure that the payment amount is not coercive or unduly influencing an individual to participate in the research study. Additionally, we seek to ensure subjects are informed of the relevant aspects of the project, including but not limited to the time investment expected and any compensation offered, before agreeing to participate. In this case, it appears that this information was adequately presented in the Study Information Sheet allowing workers to make an informed decision regarding whether they would like to participate.
