I dunno. Bearnie just likes wearing one cause the dogs do and he likes fitting in or something? He loses his mind whenever I take it off to clean it and won’t calm down till I put it back on. The others usually don’t wear them unless we’re traveling, cause they don’t care but don’t seem as into it as Bearnie. I’ll have to sucker the outdoor cats into dealing with them, cause it’s not about them coming back, it’s about making sure nobody gets the dumb idea to try and trap or hurt cats that are tacitly mine. They manage to let me clean their ears and their teeth without totally brutalizing me, so I’ll just go with the same bribery concept for the collars.

My old dog used to love his collar. When you'd take it off to give him a bath or brush him or something - he'd always be so excited to get it put back on. I could tell him to go get his colllar, and he'd run and grab it and bring it back and wag so fucking hard until I put it on him. He loved that collar. I loved that dog.

Awww, that's adorable! When Bearnie was little and still pretty feral, he violently hated the idea of leaving me so much that he would hide or fight anyone who came to look at adopting him. When he finally wore me down, I got him a collar that matched Skeeter's collar and he was so happy. I took it off to clean it and he started following me and hissing and going generally nuts until it was back on- I think his little cat brain puts it together that the dogs wear the same thing and they are part of the group, so he likes being part of the group as well.

Animals are so weird! I love them
