Well of course I'd be more proud if my children resolved a conflict without fighting, but again you're trying to create a link between spanking and violence that might not exist.
Anyway, I'm a father of 2 and we're trying to raise our kids without spanking them so I'm not saying I'm 100% in favor of spanking. I just think it is view more negatively then it should be. It's funny this came up today. The day before yesterday we were talking about spanking. I always asked Logan how many licks across the butt he thought he should have and I went with what he said. Yeah, there's definitely a big line and you're a good mom for sure. And "mental terrorism," was not any less abusive than smacking me so hard I couldn't see straight. I used to get told that I was the reason people didn't wanna have kids and I ruined their lives by being born, etc etc etc. All it did was make me gtfo as soon as I could. My dad told Matt I was a "frustrating 3 year old," and "you would have hit her too." Matt did not take that well and has refused to ever see him again (that entire weekend gave him about 100 reasons, actually). It's really not a shock that cps was around my childhood a lot. Pros: I was independent from a young age Cons: Hope my parents don't expect me to take care of them one day! I'm still relatively sure I'll be the one who has to deal with my dad one day, cause I doubt his currently 34 year old wife will stick around once he's a senior citizen.
