    Is 26,000 people a small town?:emoji_laughing:

It reallllly changed while I was growing up, tho. When I hit high school, a lot of folks had parents getting divorced, but when I was 6, there was just the single other person. And it was weird that s single dad had 2 girls, to boot. Not that my dad shouldn't have had us, but the fact my mom ran off and not my dad was fairly odd.

You and I have talked about this but yeah, I get a lot of "Boys need their dads."

I don't dispute that fact, but kiddo is fine without a dad.

Except, he can't climb fences. Maybe a dad would have taught him that one because I clearly did not!

Or older cousins. That's where I picked it up from, anyway. We used to roam in packs.

Yeah, that would have been good. I'm the only one of my siblings who has reproduced. I'm kinda sad for Kiddo as he's growing up without packs of cousins like I had growing up. He's often the only kid surrounded by adults at family gatherings.

I learned a lot of survival skills from my cousins and siblings!

yeah, parents are parents, regardless of gender, and obviously you're doing a good job with your lil dude.

i mean, there are a ton of things i missed out on not having a mother figure, but i'll take lack of makeup knowledge and having to figure out tampons on my own, in exchange for not being neglected and whatever else my mom did for the few months she had me as a newborn. my dad taught me some stereotypically non-feminine things but it's whatever, just like your kid loves stereotypically non-masculine things, and doesn't know how to hop a fence. it really doesn't matter who parenting comes from as long as it comes from somewhere and the kid ends up being a good person in the end. :dunno:

Nope, I grew up on Long Island, so not small at all. My specific area was super close knit, but I was "the poor kid," and was wayyyy out of the economic group that my friends were in. I didn't realize how poor I was until sleepovers came around and everyone had all this stuff I didn't. We had like, single mothers who hadn't ever been married to the bio dad (not at my school, but the other school), but it was just odd at the time it happened where I was? Divorce got way more common as I aged, but my parents seemed to do it before it was the popular trend in my part of town lol. My dad struggled to get us living in a house in a more affluent area. It was the shoddiest house possible and the old lady who sold it felt bad for my dad and accepted his offer cause she was like 90 with nobody to give it to and didn't care that much about the money. He fixed it up over the years and made a nice profit, but we used to get side eyes for being obviously out of our element. He wasn't around much, but kudos to him for getting me and my sister into a really good school district. He always taught me that the "worst house in a nice neighborhood is better than the best house in a bad neighborhood." I didn't have much, but I had a good school and nice parks and I'm guessing part of the reason I didn't go too wild without supervision was that I was hanging out with kids that had really active parents and were more affluent than I was. The town we had lived in prior to that was ...really bad. My dad didn't want us to grow up there cause he was afraid we would turn out like him, and he was very much a product of his upbringing. He got arrested in front of me when I was a kid, and it majorly borked my brain. Similar stuff happened with my mom getting forcibly committed while I was with her. I was always incredibly anxious about getting in trouble like that. I still am:emoji_laughing:

(My dad was also super duper catholic and so that probably was also involved in why it was such an odd situation for what I was used to seeing.)

Fence hopping is a valuable skill to know how to do in an emergency. Never know when in life you'll have to run from a pissed off dog, mob

    or the police
