Sound advice.

 

I just get online now and turn it off. Gets my eldest every time. Him getting mouthy? Get online and turn it off. (I have two internet lines so I simply turn theirs off and leave mine on) He forgot to take out the trash? Get online and turn it off. Works like a charm. I'm tired of yelling, so I have gotten creative and passive-aggressive with my discipline. My eldest is too old to spank, and spanking never worked with my youngest so it's not worth the effort. I have realized, whatever makes it easier on me and has the most impact, is now the method I choose.

 

I think I'm similar to your mom in the actions we would take.
But I always warn first.

One warning.

I tell the kid he has a choice. Either do xyz (what I think he needs to do/not do) or choose abc (the consequence for not doing what I think he needs to do).

it's his CHOICE. It's not me punishing him. He knows what will happen if he doesn't do xyz (or does do xyz, depending on the situation) and I have no choice but to activate the abc option due to his CHOICE. I'm just honoring his choice.
