Also spring is garbage picking season. Many people do their spring cleaning and throw their crap out on the curb. Many municipalities even have designated days for this in which you can throw out anything you want for the garbage people to pick up.

I wouldn't personally pick up a bed or a couch from the garbage - because bed bugs sounds like a fucking nightmare, but for wooden stuff like desks, dressers, etc... - it's good. Save hundreds.

Craigslist too. People post a lot of furniture for free just because it's a hassle to dispose of it. They just want someone to pick itup and take it away.

Thank you! Definitely not getting anything like beds/couches since I've heard nightmare stories about stuff like that. We will definitely get all of our wooden stuff that way though through curb alerts and garage sales. I actually furnished my current place through free stuff and will hopefully furnish another student when I leave basically all of it out by the dumpster here since I can't move it(there are herds of people in trucks that come by every day looking for stuff).

 

100% the craigslist thing. Also asking around, too. I have picked up a ludicrous amount of stuff over the years from people who just did not want it anymore and didn't want the hassle.
