No. utilities is important especially for renting, and after the housing crises.

People often owe a bundle to utilities. They try and be nice and not shut you off asap, but once you're $1000 behind? It's off, and they'll never let you get power again until that's paid off.

We need to know this. I can't rent to people who can't turn on power.

 

Sure, that makes sense. But if I can pay my gas bill, why don't I get credit for it? <-- that's why is "sounds" weird to me on first hearing it.. i've lived idk how many years w/o seeing my power bill pop up on my CR, never crossed my mind not paying it would throw it on there against me.. If your wife left you right this second (you did nothing wrong but she decided that she wanted someone else), could you make the payment you're making on your mortgage twice, without any savings of any kind or warning it was coming? That's basically what will happen if you get put on CS right after a divorce, because the mom always gets everything and all the money.

But again, you don't know anything if it isn't there.. wouldn't knowing someone had an apt beforehand and kept their utlities on & paid in time for 3 years be worthwhile? Cause for all you know someone w/ nothing on their CR just bummed off their roommate that didn't pay

Experian has something rolled out that you can voluntarily link them and it'll bump your score.

 

The power company isn't extending credit to you upfront, so they don't show up on your report. You're just paying for a service, same as paying for a redbull, pack of condoms, and a charleston chew at the Sunoco.
