Modem's and routers are typically service agnostic. If you own your own modem, Centurylink may be willing to provision it for their service, and routers, well, they don't really care so long as they get a connection. I'd call Comcast, tell them to give you a better deal or go bury their heads in the sand then give CL a call to see what they can do for you.

EDIT: Also, you're not going to get proper service for 10-30 dollars a month. You're either gonna get DATA limited, or shafted in speeds to where it isn't even worth having.

 

Some people are saying set the date back 1 day- if I can at least get it all back for a bit, I can copy- though I think it is all saved to Dropbox and I had everything on Macrium and a USB, but not sure if I can go to either of those and see a list of my scripts and add-ons. Maybe it is all saved in one of those places- fingers crossed.
This is just lame.

 

I really just want to get rid of the internet completely and turk from the free wifi at my apt. complex. might be worth buying a laptop instead of a desktop to do that. isn't there some way to get internet through a phone service or something so it's $10-$30/month?

 

you can easily turk using your cell phone's mobile plan - hotspot/tether. I've done it on 3G for months at a time a couple years ago

It'll suck though if you like watching youtube videos and stuff though, although 4g isn't too bad nowadays. Most cell plans will throttle you after you reach 4 gb or whatever arbitrary number they set

You'll have to do your research on this.

I pay 30 a month for unlimited internet on t-mobile and all I do is go to Android settings and click "WiFi hotspot" and then set it up.

Every phone is different. Every carrier is different. Many shitty carriers like verizon will try to charge you as well.

However if you don't have a cell phone plan already - not sure it's worth getting one just for cheaper internet. There's probably better options. Although dunno.

@turker if your apartment complex has free wifi, why not just use that?

 

USB tethering is a thing as well but you are prob better off just buying a wifi dongle

 

I still have Chrome installed for "Just in case" situations like this.

 

I use chrome for almost everything and chromium for batches.
