Probably as good as the entire www rewrite was to banning them?

They're far more likely to try and make them obsolete if they have a serious problem w/ third parties developing over top of their crap than just saying "lol you can't use this thing we've said you could use for a decade and have no way of informing you you can't use them and pretty much no reliable way of checking if you use them"

There was a bar announcing the transition to worker.mturk for half a year and people still had no freaking idea when it happened. No real chance of being able to backtrack on scripts and have it go well.
