I'm REQUIRING him to join a club in high school next year. He has already spoken to the faculty members who run the robotics teams.

I'm sure he'll find teens more like him on the robotics team, yes? Please? I pray.

There are some shudderful memories of my freshman college year in there. The 80s. No one was shy.

 

I didn't actually hang out with my dormmates but I was over at another building with friends all the time.

Yep, and speaking of nerds we just finished watching The Big Bang Theory and I know that show was so popular because it hit home for so many people. Kiddo could relate to those characters (and we love Young Sheldon).

(admission: I cried during the last episode...)

 

I remember when I worked at a uni a kid would post on (trendy social media site I can't remember atm bc I'm old) and literally invite homeless folks to come have sex in the dorms while leaving her door and window wide open... I'd take the cat over that any day

My kid is opposite of me. I was super social. Tons of friends in high school. I loved rallies. I was a cheerleader. I ran track and cross country. I was an honor student, I did student government and a bazillion clubs. I STILL speak to people I went to HS with (because they all found me on Facebook.)

But inside?

Frack I was a mess the whole time. I laid in bed every single night beating myself up for all the stupid shit I just knew I did at school or at the rally or during the game or whatever.

Fortunately, it was "in" to be smart at my high school, so I didn't have to pretend I wasn't getting good grades.

But I don't understand my kid not caring if he eats lunch alone. I would have rather shaved my head bald.
