    This is not my most shocking university housing story btw... but the most shocking is also deeply sad so you won't be hearing it unless I get really drunk

    that means it's still possible

    I do not know what you guys are talking about, and I am kind of tired to read it. But;

    As a person who were teaching a lot classes before getting a PhD, at a well-known university (Penn State), I support community colleges.

    I had many students who tried Penn State after community college for the following reasons;

    1. they did not have a great academic background after high school but community colleges helped them after taking relevant courses about the subject they want to be a part of PSU.

    2. They did not have a scholarship but having a few courses, even degrees, made others to notice them as a prospective, successful student.

    community colleges forever....

    Yep, but lots of people think the popular social kids aren't that way.

    We were. Maybe even worse, as we were seeking external validation!

    I'm still social ish. I have a ton of friends. But since I turned 50 I don't want to leave my house. And I don't want anyone to come over, lol. I'm confusing a lot of people, lol.

    This forum is more my speed now.

    I stopped giving a shit about external validation when my daughter died. Completely stopped caring what people think of me. Oddly, that was INCREDIBLY freeing.

    The only reason that I closed my door (most of the time) was to block out the noise from the other people blasting music >.>

    I feel that. Pretty sure the dude next to me blasted the same 4 hours of music the entire school year.

    Community college is a path we haven't ruled out. Kiddo's dad graduated from the UC Berkeley Engineering dept but started at a community college.

    However, if kiddo can get into a UC and get a scholarship that pays tuition, then we're pretty even honestly. It's just room/board/food at that point. So we're going to shoot for the UC. As of now, if a parent fills out a FAFSA and makes less than 80K per year, it's an automatic scholarship to have tuition paid.

    I don't make 80K per year, in case ya'll wondered. :emoji_joy:

    Meanwhile, that's how I made half my friends my first year. :emoji_sweat_smile: Maybe Clemson is just friendlier:emoji_kissing_heart:

    But, Ymmv, obviously :emoji_kissing_heart:

    Plus, @ChrisTurk can attest I picked the PARTAY freshman dorm, and also maybe the only co-ed freshman dorm muahaha.

    By the end of the year all but 2 people had been kicked out from my floor. It was pretty nice once it got to that point.

    This.

    Holy heck in the circles that I run there is some "shame" in it from some people.

    "Where's your kid going to college next year?"

    "Junior college!"

    "Oh, they didn't get in anywhere else?"

    Like that's the only reason someone would go to a JC.
