This definitely. This will be unpopular, but I don't force my kids to apologize. If they do something wrong that they might need to apologize for, we talk about it and why it was wrong and how the other person feels. I refuse to make my kid say I'm sorry. If they aren't sorry, then they aren't. An apology isn't going to change anything when it's insincere. They still have to deal with the consequences of their actions and are disciplined. However, I know if my kids apologize to me or to others, they really are sorry. It's not something they automatically say to think they can get out of trouble.

Oh god yes please this. I got forced to apologize ALL THE TIME. Now it's literally the first thing out my mouth if I think I've even slightly bothered someone irl. To the point my husband has been trying to teach me out of it. I just apologize for everything and it's a super bad habit, but between school and parents forcing it all the time it's now a terrible habit. Can you adopt me yet?

I was forced to, as well. It is a very hard habit to break. But I promised myself to treat my kids differentl Perfect example:

My kid when he was 3 spit in a friend of mines face. They had been playing, but he just spit on her on purpose. I told him to apologize, he said no. Several times. I whipped him, and told him again. HE STILL REFUSED. Just flat out refused. I asked him why, and he said "I'm not sorry, you told me not to lie". That was the end of me making him apologize. And I felt like a heel on top of it all. He was grounded though.

 

Between Matt's incoming birthday and the fact my hiking shoes are basically kaputsky, ALL THE LISTINGGSSS!
