My parents had me sign up under my mother at the time because she made no money. Then she died the first year I was in college and I tried signing up under my father. They refused any aid because my father makes like 200k and just told me tough shit pay it yourself. That's a fun one! I just never went back.

 

RJ has already declared he was NOT going to college. He would go to "a trade school or something" but he said he wasn't about to go through an extra 4 years of school after he graduates. He's only 9 so that may change, but if that's what he wants to do, that's fine with me.

My kid is going to college to be a teacher.....it's hard call but I personally think that is a lot of money to spend to make less than a lot of people that didn't go to college.

Doesn't matter what your personal opinion is if your kid is dead set on becoming a teacher. Is this the same kid that won't get off her phone and got caught vaping on the bus, though?

 

I still to this day found it baffling. I was independant on my taxes, cause I paid 100% of my own costs and did not go back to their house, and fafsa was still like, "Yeah, but your dad and stepmom could help you if they wanted." I was able to get fafsa to drop them like 2 years later? It was a butt ton of paperwork and even then, it just got me like 1500 extra in available federal loans, not like...free money.

Ah well, we call the baby pine trees "college money," for the future sprog.

 

But the issue that causes is when AI becomes more prevalent without a college degree in something important a job will be harder to find.
