He is in college, isn't he? Maybe you should treat him like an adult and he wouldn't have to sneak around behind your back trying to get help for his anxiety.

 

I told him to see a doctor....he refused to do that...he's 20 I told him if he really has anxiety he should look into a therapist and he didn't want to do that.

20, I shouldn't say thinks he's an adult he thinks that being 20 he can basically do anything he wants and we're not suppose to have any say, kinda frustrating.

Maybe you should help him do that, if he really has anxiety, it can be so hard to work up the nerve to do things on your own. Sounds like he needs support from his parents so he can get his life on track.

 

This is where I support you. My house, my rules. One of my rules is no smoking/vaping in the house.

I'd kick anyone out who could not follow that rule.

I don't care if you do outside of my house, just not inside of my house. It's the disrespect of not following my rules that would bother me.

 

I did, when I made an appointment he refused to go saying he didn't need a doctor. You can only help so much.

When I smoked I didn't even smoke in my own house. Yard, sure, but not inside of the house. Anyone who smokes anything on my property is welcome to smoke in my yard. I have a comfy swing you can use! Just not IN my house.

 

I know all of this and I tried to be about as helpful as I could be, if you try to push him he will become aggressive so I not going to try to make him do it, he has to make that step.

He's 20. He's an adult. You need to let go of treating him like he's 12. It is your house, he's an adult. Doesn't follow your rules? GTFO. But saying shit like "he thinks hes an adult" when he is a whole ass adult? yikes. Sounds like he needs someone understanding to help him. Not you. If you continue to force shit and treat him like he's a child, he will continue to edge the other way. Anxiety is actual hell and to have someone who is supposed to support you PUSH you is terrifying and sometimes results in anger and lashing out.

 

I didn't mean that in any negative type of way at all sorry if it came off that way.
