Also, unless you're very familiar with tax preparation I would not recommend filing on your own. It can be a bit of a pain and you might end up overpaying or underpaying. Your best bet is to go to a local tax professional.

 

I avoid these discussions at all cost on here. But the 600 dollar limit when you get paid under that figure by a single source. When it's under 600 bucks, you typically will not get a 1099 from that source. Doesn't mean you dont have to report it however. My personal recommendation is filing all of this income under a Schedule C so you can claim depretiation on your dekstop(if its new and subject to the 5yr depreciation factor). You could also possibly write off utilities if you wanted. You could also treat this as a "business" and claim office use of home. Again. I am not a tax professional, just a dude who reviews taxes every day and has fairly complicated taxes myself.

Yeah. Business use of Home is VERY iffy. It's pretty far and few between when you see a person who actually does have a business at home claim it. It can help you come loan time since its a paper loss like depreciation and gets added back in your income calcs.
