Took a short simple survey on mturk. It paid well.

Some time later, I got the same survey on another platform.

Fortunately, just before I would've submitted the survey,
I remembered that I'd done it before, so I returned it. (I'm a good little boy.)

I wonder:

Might some researchers (those who distribute surveys across multiple platforms) contemplate creation of a "global opt-in cross-platform worker ID registration system" to enable anti-duplication screening across platforms? ... Any such system would be controversial for sure. Probably impractical anyway. But I wouldn't be surprised if someone out there in the research world might be thinking about the problem of work duplication across platforms.

 

I mean technically that's a bowl not a table lol

They can check for IP address and block you from retakes on other platforms. The onus is on them. They have the tools and could say something like "please don't take this if you've done it on another platform" or even have an IP address check to block duplicates. It would not prevent someone actively trying to take these studies twice (easy to use another PC, etc), but could help people who just don't remember if they took a similar survey.

Cons:
The interface for recording sucks and it constantly yells that you're clipping and need to adjust your mic, when the audio is fine and isn't clipping. It makes recording take a lot longer because sometimes it just won't accept the audio.
