Pricing is wild. You can often get very different prices based on routing, how many stops you're prepared to deal with, if you are willing to go to a different airport, etc. E.g. when we have flown internationally we've always gone out of EWR or IAD because it's been cheaper than PHL.

If you're looking at booking a hotel to save $150, consider how bad a hotel you'll put up with, don't forget to add in taxes and nonsense, plus an extra day of parking (if you have have to park your car while you're away), extra day of car rental (if you are renting a car at your destination), etc. You may end up saving only $30 or $40. Is it worth the hassle?

It might go down, but it's unlikely at this point. You're far more likely to see it go up from here on out. But it's really just educated guessing these days, and I don't know any good way of hedging.

Make sure you're not just relying on Google Alerts. Actually go and look at the flights you want on the airline site, see the seats. Take note of them. When the price drops, are you seeing less seats available? Are you a seasoned flyer who doesn't care about where they sit on the plane or do you need a window or aisle seat, one in the front or the back of the plane, etc? If you have a preference that's more like a requirement, pay attention to those specific seats and check if they are sticking around as you wait it out.

2 months. Like Thanksgiving? If so, game over, book now and deal with the lost money. If another timeframe, then you're okay to wait for a bit longer and see how the price goes. Just make sure you're not relying solely on price alerts unless you are traveling to and from a place with plenty of flights per day. If limited flights, you need to be much more willing to pull the trigger when you reach a price you're comfortable with even if it's above what you were hoping.

@ChrisTurk really good points. I was assuming you were getting close to Thanksgiving for your travel, so yeah, book now.

The other point is to check on the seats at the airline's site and see if the price includes baggage or not ("basic economy").
