If you are in Home Depot or Lowes or any garden, just walk around the succulents and pick up any pieces you see on the ground. Basically free plants.

what do you do for the fall?

i have to go in and chop everything down to prep it for winter and i don't want to :( i'm already planning for next spring lol, but luckily grow lights are a thing so i can surround myself with house plants and indoor-gardening projects like herbs and trying to overwinter my lavender.

Yep! I got a couple Ogre ears that way and a nice handful of spiky bois. I uhhh transported the spiky bois in my purse and now don't know how to clean it out and can't use that part of my purse now but it was worth it.

Gotta do your onions and garlic if you want them to be ready for spring.

Spinach and garlic grow together. They have a nice symbiotic relationship. Also, kale grows great in cold weather. It actually tastes way better after a couple freezes.

I had to chop all the old plants down...got my compost ready to mix into the soil (going to be tilling soon) and then...not sure. The seasons here are incredibly odd and I never know if fall/winter will actually be cool...of if it will be 90f on Christmas morning. Last year I did a lot of collard/mustard/turnips and they did...ok. I just don't use a ton of them. It might be different this year since I have chickens again and at least it wouldn't go to waste. I'm also thinking of planting some potatoes (they tend to do well here) and maybe cabbage this year.

This will be the first year that I actually till up a large part of my backyard so it's going to be a bit of a learning experience.

I'm growing onions, garlic, spinach and peas over the winter. Granted, we don't get snow but we do drop into the 30s overnight (just did last night matter of fact...) My garlic appear to be growing like crazy from the top. I'm resisting the urge to dig down and see what's going on underneath the soil.

Onions are still doing great, though the massive winds we had this weekend made them all lay down flat.
