10/30 - Wonka Bar Wednesday!

yeah, my dad's mom and grandparents were from italy, and the tomato sauce/red sauce passed down was tomatoes beat to a pulp simmering for a billion years + seasonings + any random veggie from the garden. the sauce itself is pretty thin compared to what we think of as marinara, but so much more flavor.

but that was just their personal take on sauce from a tiny town, so i'm not sure how representative that is for everyone else, but definitely not "marinara"

 

it's balsamic drizzle not ketchup, I promise! I would never deface a pizza with ketchup

Yeah and when you make sauce, you spend all day making sauce and jar up a bunch of it. When the tomatoes are harvested it's basically an all day thing and everyone has a job. Italians invented the assembly line, we were just using it for sauce instead of cars.
