I've thought about it but I have always kept away from inflatables. Dunno why. I don't like them as much. And they look lame as fuck during the day when they're all puddled up on the ground. I decorate so my house still looks good during the day with the lights off (or, I try to, and I think I succeed?)

I'm not obsessed with holiday decorating. not AT ALL.

My strong suspicion is that masters is handed out via some sort of qualified lottery. Workers that pass some annual threshold of completed HITs, total annual income from HITs, low rejection, completion of a certain number of specific Amazon hosted HITs, and two or three other factors I feel confident are used as metrics, but which probably shouldn't be disclosed on a public forum, are entered into a lottery for masters qual.

Early on, when they wanted to populate the pool to have a broad enough sample of workers necessary to make masters a valuable upsell to requesters, the threshold for the lottery was lower, which is why there were days where loads of workers reported getting the email. Now, I would assume they only add to the pool as some internal metric dictates, either workers with masters dropping out of turking, or losing masters/getting suspended, or when there's some period where a significant number of masters only HITs don't get completed in whatever they consider to be a timely manner, making both the chances of getting into the lottery, and the chances of getting drawn, substantially smaller.

I think they should add a new internal qual, "Top Tier Workers" or w/e, that gives the no captcha benefit to workers who obviously are doing consistent work. Like, suppose anybody who gets to 99%+ with ~300k approved &| $100k lifetime earnings is automatically inducted, and then use that qual to populate the notional masters' lottery pool, so that there's an achievable goal workers can pursue.

They could also add a "reliability" metric meaning how long have you been consistently turking, producing quality work, and keeping your scores up. That way, people who aren't doing massive batch hits but who have been turking for a long time doing good work but have, say, under 100K hits submitted could qualify, too.

As a (former) researcher, I'd like my pool of subjects to be as wide as possible, so any metric that shows "quality" work is good. Don't have to be a full time worker. If you've been doing this, say, five years and have 65K hits? That's pretty good if your approval is 99% and you do work regularly.

However, I'm sure my idea won't make Amazon money so...probably a bad one.

Desk job office closed early today since it's a holiday. Was slow af. Home now. Kiddo just mopped the kitchen floor so my house smells all squeaky clean!

oh, and I took my Toyota into the dealership today thinking I needed new brakes but...they just needed to be cleaned. So I walked out of there with a bill that was hundreds less than I was planning on!

they do give it to people who haven't done a lot of hits. some people think it's partly demographics, which would also help with surveys.

They forgot to put the cool kids qual on the LA batch, but LA is garbo anyway. You aren't really missing much.

 

afaik they haven't given out masters recently. the reason they gave it out in big batches at least twice is because they waited longer in between when they gave it out. one time it was like a year and a half in between. but before that it wasn't in big batches and was more often.
