Just for him to stop being a moron to be honest, 9 out of 10 times we have an issue it's because he did something moronic like going somewhere he wasn't suppose to, not telling us where he is. I just ordered my tablet you guys.

 

We've been foster parents for teens and they always push all the boundaries... but wondering at 17 is he in college or some kind of classes? Or at a job where he should be paying rent? Finishing HS - so needs to take SATs? Also a lot of trades work out there (esp plumbing/tiling/heating/welding) etc.

He is a junior in high school, he has a job he works a few days a week, up until last week he was playing football for the school.

 

I just want to let you know that I'm that kid (not literally, figuratively, obviously...lol) My dad gave me so many chances, and I fucked up so many times. I went through about 5 cars, I've moved in and out of their house at least 3-4 times. Basically, I never learned. I still don't know how to learn, and it's been a bad process. I was kicked out after I graduated because I didn't come home on time, I had to work the next morning. Mom asked me what time I'd be home and I told her "eventually"...I did learn pretty quick that the real adult world sucks (and still does). I'm not trying to discourage you, but really the only thing that ever helped me was a) getting kicked out and getting a dose of reality, and b) crawling back to a lot of rules to help me save money and stuff. It's really the only thing that helped, but I still repeat a lot of my problems... I don't think anything sticks. I'm 32 and I do have ADHD and some other issues, but I know it's "no excuse". This last time (like a month ago) I thought I was going to have to go live in a shelter or something because I didn't know where to go, they said I could move back but only if I worked 40 hours a week. I ended up working things out with my boyfriend and I'm not leaving, but it's been a hard life and I've made it that way on myself because I mentally don't feel like I could ever have a full-time job and support myself and it's my problem...

Good luck, sorry for the uhhh autobiography there, but I just know it's a freaking struggle. I was grounded probably half my life in high school because of making stupid mistakes. lol

 

He is 17 , add girls into it and there will always be some problems.. cus 17 lol. talking to him like a guy will help. don't yelling or talking to him when you pissed that wont help at all. make him take on more responsibility around the house, or even have him volunteer some place. I dont think taking away his phone will help. at 17 it kinda just alienates him from his friends who could either help him or cause more trouble, just depends on his friends. But taken away game consoles and stuff like that is better then taking away a phone.

 

I'd just like to say thank you for being a foster parent. It is my hope to do this some day when my kids move out.
