Yeah same here. But I'm guessing the people who experience trouble with it are probably the more vocal minority.

I figure if it starts dying on me randomly I could just run a c wire through the wall, which I really don't want to do.

I also heard some people reroute their fan wire to be a c wire instead, which seems like a pretty easy solution

I didn't read anything prior to this but I had to do this set up with my ecobee and it's been working fine for 6ish months now.

You're going up in the attic and re-wiring stuff so you'll need to be comfortable with that
