But...Franzen was a really good player under him and they won, sometimes the guy you hate gets the most out of you.

 

I don't necessarily agree with this. Maybe to a certain extent but emotionally abusing someone just to get the "best" out of them is bull.

Maybe so but at the same time I don't view sports in the same lens as say real life. Plenty of coaches that are total hardass dicks get the most out of players.

My parents were hardcore about that!

Like, encouraged me to try out for teams and squads. Then when I'd make it onto the team/squad, claimed they didn't have the money to pay for the equipment and camps I needed (which they knew about before I tried out). Oh, the lasting trauma, lol! I was the only cheerleader who couldn't go to camp, even though the coaches called and begged my parents to send me, and we ALL had to have extra practices to teach me all the routines they learned at camp.

Totally traumatizing when you're 16, lol.

 

True, but have you checked up on Franzen lately? The dude is a mess now and part of that is the way he was treated. There is a life after hockey and he is not having a very good time.

 

Yea I think that anytime someone has concussion issues and they get screamed at that can be really bad. This is why it's important to get stuff diagnosed early since head injuries do lead to depression and if you feel that way your brain isn't going to think "dude is railing me to get me to play better" it's going to go down a whole different path.

It's really hard reading the stuff he has put out. Even tougher knowing that he's still in the thick of it

 

Railing someone up is different that emotionally abusing them. I don't know what Babcock has said or not but if it got to Franzen the way it seemed to have, I will stick with that it was way over the line.
