Ever think that, maybe, cats are just plain assholes?

 

Yeah...we tried that and he just peed so much it soaked into them and the house still smelled of warm pee lol. It also fucks with the hvac efficiency and the engineer bot insisted we stop using them anyway.

When I say we've tried just about everything...outside of ditching this cat, he seems like he will find a way. He's even gotten good at just prying the vent covers out of the floor. He's like a tiny, decepit monster. I'm firmly convinced he actually escaped from hell and put on a cat suit and that's why he looks so raggedy Every vet said he was unlikely to make it even a month, it's been over a year. I think @morweeg is correct that he might live till he's 25 just to spite the world lol.

Eh no, all my other feral cats that I've raised are hella sweet and Srags is still sweet, but he spent 10/11 years on the street and somehow survived and I found him with a broken jaw and starving to death. it's hard to get a cat THAT feral to be totally house cat perfect. I knew that going in with him and decided it was worth caring for him anyway so he could have a nice retirement fromt he horrid life he lived until now. Outside of the vent peeing stuff, he's easy to deal with and spends most of the day cuddling or sleeping. He doesnt pee on the furniture, at least!

This might be our next crazy idea! We considered diapering him, but when he gets stressed he starts to tear his own fur out...so I'm a little leary of that option? if you don't take his sweater off the exact moment he asks you, he will start tearing chunks of his fur out. That cat is so bonkers I try to keep him as low stress as possible so he doesn't get all cray cray. He was doing way better but regressed badly after the pet sitter incicent, so I'm hoping he will ease off again as he gets less stressed. Of course, I go on vacation again soon...hoping the new pet sitters won't stress him out as much as that girl who wasn't feeding him apart from the others and barely there so he basically starved for 5 days I hired 2 pet sitters this time

 

In that case I'd probably just block the vents entirely and use space heaters

We seal off a couple of rooms we don't want to heat with flush to the floor covers that - I guess theoretically he could get off, but it would be tough.
