Same with me. We must have the same teeth!
Found a lovely, lovely dentist - I go to the kids and babies hygienist and we only do one quadrant (just for cleaning) at a time to give everything time to recover. It's waaaaay better and has been much more manageable.

lol the one time I got my teeth drilled for cavities my folks too me to a sketchy place that refused to give me laughing gas. I have a hysterical fear of needles and so I wouldn't let them numb me without something to calm me down about the needles in my mouth. They just told me to tell them when the drilling hurt TOO much. I got 8 cavities drilled and capped with nothing but squeezing my hands and moment breaks. I now just religiously brush my teeth and pray that my teeth will be okay.

I also have roots that wrap around my jaw bones. One dentist I went to pulled 24 teeth from someone else in the time it took to pull one of mine, and the last dentist I went to broke my tooth in three pieces trying to remove it, broke two of his tools and left shards of tooth in my gums. I wasn't numb for any of it and I was screaming. I tried to bite his finger off. :emoji_expressionless: I now get put to sleep when anything gets done. Talk about panic attacks.

I'm fortunate to have never been anxious about the dentist, so when my son asked to help the hygienist for the first time a few years ago, it seemed adorable to look over and see a 3 year old wearing a mask pretending to look at my teeth. Now I have a 6 year old in there, in charge of the pedal for spinning and the suction thingy. The kid is a butcher, and it's less adorable.

Same. I've always brushed my teeth extremely well and they're pretty, straight and white, but they're just soft by "tooth standards". Growing up we didn't have any dental care, and bad teeth run in my family. I'm kinda outta luck on that. :(

It's actually been fine for me today. I made that easily. Working a full time job and turking on the side, so my goals are never as large as people who do this full time. $16 is a half way decent day for this part timer :)

I have done this. I am terrified of needles. I had a sketchy Wisdom teeth experience in college where I didn't wake up for three days so dentists and I are not friends.

I do have to say that these lovely dentists I have now have worked really hard to make me comfortable and going in for one quadrant at a time with the kids hygienist really works. Had a cavity last year and insisted on being pre-medicated with xanax, brought an eye mask so I couldn't see what was going on, and listened LOUD to some muzak on my phone with earphones. Also - got the laughing gas so that really, really helped.

This is my issue. I go every 3-4 months for perio-maintenance and it's not cheap. I have insurance, but it's crappy insurance. Only covers up to $1000 max every year. And if I need a crown my out of pocket is about $1200.

I just paid $650 for retainers to avoid needing four crowns on my back teeth due to spacing issues (large gaps in the back causing gum damage). Fortunately the retainers have worked to close the gaps, saving me a bundle.

dental care isn't universal like health care is (although that's starting to become part of platform proposals on the left), so it's covered by private insurance, otherwise yes, it's expensive.
