yeah my insurance also covers only 1000 and that's for routine stuff like fillings. major work like root canals and crowns aren't covered I don't think. I'm upgrading my dental insurance next year though - so will probably be able to get some of the major stuff I need done as soon as the waiting period or however that works is over

Same here. Had similar experience with a root canal I had to have redone THREE times and was flying out to Italy on vacation with my husband in massive pain and called the dentist on emergency line the day before the flight because it hurt so bad.
He pretty much fixed it, and the good thing that came out of it is that I found out that having post root-canal drugs on an international flight completely erased my fear of flying and was the best flight of my life :)

We've never had dental as part of our Health Insurance - which sucks. But luckily the dentist we go to has a payment plan that you pay into monthly and you get free cleanings, x-rays and discounts on anything major. It's been totally worth it.

my dental is completely separate from my health insurance.

it basically covers very little. dental insurance is like the opposite of health insurance. With health insurance there's a max out of pocket that you pay. With dental insurance - there's a max out of THEIR pocket that THEY pay. - and it's not very much at all....

Although I have to say there has been times in our life where I've had a "temporary" crown for three years because the 1K outlay for the permanent just wasn't do-able. (One of them used to fall off so when we traveled I actually carried a little "crown fixer kit" that was basically some dental glue in a tube that you could put it back in in a emergency.)

My dental is included with mine and is affordable...but I still don't go unless I'm dying. Once I was hurting so bad, I begged my brother (the really really strong brother) to punch me and knock it out. He wouldn't cause he was afraid he'd kill me. :emoji_joy::emoji_joy::emoji_joy:

Basically same thing happened to me. I was around 10 and I told the guy I didn't like needles and he was a real jerk about it and did it without any numbing. It was a nightmare. We went a different dentist and he said I had a ton of fillings and sealants that I didn't even need. That really made me anxious about the dentist even today.

All my front teeth are permanently crowned.

And when I got them, one of them fell out 3 or 4 times within like 2 years.

Thankfully they've been fine ever since though. Upgraded glue or something? dunno.

I'm super paranoid about chewing with my front teeth though. Buffalo wings are pealed apart with my fingers or a fork. I don't eat apples unless they're cut up, etc... The thought alone of chomping down on an apple makes me cringe
