My wife wants a kitchen Aid but we agreed that now isn't the best time for that.

 

This year, my nieces, 12 and 13 insisted I don't buy them presents. They feel that a trip to Maine this summer was both birthday and Christmas! So, instead of a gift, I donated 100$ each to Beagle Freedom Project in their names. I also got them a very small gift of seamless bamboo socks, because they complain about the seams on their socks constantly. LOL

 

kitchen aid mixer is better than a 1500 dollar tv that will probably replace a fully serviceable one though IMO

But I have a bias - I can't really tell the difference between all the different tv types. 1080,, 4k whatever all the same to my shitty eyes

 

Just simply say, "Thank you!"

Nothing else has to be done. Just thank the person for the gift, even if the gift is weird, sucks, is something you already have, is something you hate, etc.

That's what I tell my socially awkward kid.

I feel you. Thankfully we stopped spending time with my extended EXTENDED family and friends (cousins, aunts, etc.) long ago. Otherwise, I'd be in the same boat. Now it's just us and we all ask what the other wants so we know what we're getting and it's something we actually want. They don't expect anyone to gush over anything. Thanks, and that's it.

 

My youngest will leave for college this summer then we are scaling Christmas gifts down as the other two are in their twenties but we will still do Christmas it is about family time just going to do one gift a kid.

Of course once one of them gives me a grandchild that doesn't have whiskers all bets are off grandma is spoiling the shit out of that kid
