I have an opposite story. A friend in high school asked me to help him chop up his deer. I was like, cool, sure. While butchering it, I was like, hm, this is kind of gross. But then I was like, but meat is tasty. So... I just kept eating meat.

The only animal I was ok with us killing was our goat. That thing was annoying af. I was glad when he was gone. Loudmouth little effer at 2 am.

I would cook meat after that, but I wouldn't eat it because all of our farm animals were my friends. I couldn't help it. Eating them was like eating one of my cats to me. (Odd that I was fine cooking them...dunno...teenager brain...but it seemed fine to cook them up for the family, just not to actually consume them!)

I can totally get that too, I wouldn't be able to do that to something that was actually "mine". I guess it helped that he had already done the messiest work, skinning it and de-...animalizing it? So it already looked like raw meat.

See, I should have added that I can't even set mouse traps because I can't bring myself to even see their sad little dead bodies. I also willingly feed and emotionally adopt random skunks, raccoons, and opossums near my house because I like them. I guess the moral of the story is that I'm only cool with dead things that are conventionally edible. Which, yes, rules out humans.
