Basic Johnny Cat clay litter because it's the cheapest and that no track stuff lies like a lying liar. But here's the key:

IN A CAT BOX WITH A LID AND CHARCOAL FILTER ON TOP!

I also have a towel in front of it to catch any litter stuck to paws.

There is never a smell in our house using plain Johnny Cat clay (not clumping, not no track, not nothing) litter, with a COVERED CAT BOX (in case you missed that the first time).

Or paper bag because, you know, plastics.

Or use what would have been a single use plastic (like a bread bag, the bag from frozen vegetables, the plastic produce bags, etc.) and make them double use and end their lives as poop bags.

Because. Plastics. We won't eliminate them (and we shouldn't! They're convenient!) but we can all be responsible stewards and make a goal of reducing single use plastics.

I have the Tidy Cats Breeze litter thing for my cats. I have multiple around the house and it's the easiest thing we've figured out to work and keep the smells at bay while also being easy to change and clean up.

But for my fosters I either use horse pellets or any unscented clay litter.

 

It's THEIR HOUSE NOW, beyotch. They own you, all your furniture, all your money, and everything in your house. Soon, they will have cat hair on ALL THE THINGS and you'll find it in your underpants. And all hair ties, twist ties, and bag clips will be under your bed or couches when you can't find any available.

We use this and it's a breeze to clean up, doesn't dust, doesn't make the house smell. While it technically tracks lightly it's way better then anything store bought. We use an open litter box with a little litter catch around it and haven't had issues since swapping to this. It also does wonders about keeping them smell down.

No smell. Unless it's right after a big stinkie and I go into that room but you always know they did that because they run around like madmen trying to get away from the smell. (wait, didn't they just run by? ooooooohhhhh,.....you have a stinkie!)

That spray is a lifesaver. I use the sprinkle (I forgot about that) every time we scooop out the catbox. Just sprinkle it over the top and forget.

But, as I said, lid with charcoal filter.

Now, I will warn you, when it's time to change that filter you'll know. And that filter will STINK TO HIGH HEAVEN when you take it out. But it did its job and trapped the smell so....

 

I have a cat that pulls the filter out and plays with it....

 

are the cats covering the waste? because if they are assholes like one of mine and they leave it uncovered, nothing will save you.

buy the spray. Get a filter. A glade plugin for the room. Accept that this is your life now.
