02/06 - Thick and Thin Thursday!

My kids are 17 and 16 so you can imagine how well that goes over...my son is the master of springing hey I need to go here, at the last minute on you.

Or like this morning this is what will happen, for a long time I rode their asses out of bed so they'd catch the bus, I still do it to my daughter or she'd not go to school on purpose. My wife thinks I should make our son get up on his own...he misses the bus like 3 days a week.....if he doesn't find a ride she'll expect me to take him to school.....I just want to be like why should I do that? This strategy is literally giving me more shit to do.

 

Meditate... you can take 30 minutes and get in a good session. There are lots of videos out there which can guide you through it and even once a week makes a ton of difference. You don't need to subscribe to or believe any particular religion / sect / whatever to do it, it's literally remaining still and becoming aware of yourself and your local surroundings and focusing on that for a short time. The key is to do it, no matter what. It's time for you and no one gets to intrude on it.

 

I just don't feel like I have money for that, our monthly income is down because well I spend way more time doing other things now.

Most places have assistance programs that they will gladly help you out with. You just need to call.

Kids are 16 and 17? Soudns to me like "No, no, no, you make it, hope you got good walking shoes and ok, walk home after."

 

Sounds to me like expectations need to be established. I understand your wife can't help currently but your kids NEED to. If they aren't working they need to be working in the house for money.

 

I'm so sorry you are going through this. Is there anyone she works with that she could catch a ride with? Do you have any family close by that could come and give you a break? I hope the end is in sight - how long is her recovery?!

 

My wife does this too...I understand she is recovering from surgery so I try not to get pissed at her. My kids are really not helpful, they'd not eat if I didn't cook...and then my wife will say "they're kids it isn't their job to do everything" when I bring up that I need some kind of break.

Nooooooo, talk to some pros about where you can get some HELP. The social service people in your county are PROs (they don't cost a cent!!) about where you can get SOME KIND of help, gratis. And I know things suck for you right now (!!) but quit ... putting ... barriers up. And you need to trounce on your kids until they help you.
