Oooof, the LIRR is the worst. Metro North going to the northern suburbs of NY wasn't too bad, but I just remember every time I caught a train out to long island, it was always late, delayed, stopped while we were boarded, smelled musty. Ugh

I mean, he also lived in NYC and London, so he's pretty familiar with trains, but apparently had never heard that phrase and wanted to give me a hard time- really any excuse to tease me because I frequently make train sounds and say, "TOOT TOOT GET ON THE BIRD TRAIN!" and this is apparently a dorky thing to do. It's mostly just a common gag for one of my friends to say, "Listen, I'm from Georgia/California/Iowa/etc not Long Island, so you don't make sense!"

    Basically me all the time:

Having lived in many rural areas where the only way to get anywhere is to drive 30+ miles, I'll always have a soft spot for the LIRR and the fact I could easily walk to a train station and go somewhere else on the island or to the city with my friends.Went on a bunch of college visits all on my own that way, too!

He just won't stop being an ash hole to my other cat, he chases him around and is super mean and aggressive.

Ah. Okay. So it wasn't really about CA having no trains, lol. I was confused because I live within spitting distance of so many trains (freight, passenger, rails converted to walking tracks). And we have train museums, there is a humongous train attraction in Felton near Santa Cruz...we got trains in this state! The only time I didn't live near a train whistle of some type was when I was in Marin County near Pt. Reyes and there aren't trains out there (that I saw, I could be totally wrong, lol!)

LIRR is how I get into the city. I'm about 15mins from the Port Jeff station.

We actually live next to The Tehachapi Loop, too, which is supposed to be one of the "8 Train Wonders of the World." I lived in Tehachapi for a year, so there's a lot of train enthusiasts who come around haha. :emoji_nerd: He's from a more rural-ish area of the state, so I usually tease him for being a California ranch hick while he teases me for being an uppity Lawn Guylander.

Tho, how he has actually made it 46 years without hearing that phrase, I don't actually know! :emoji_laughing:
