Do you have any women's shelters nearby? I know around here, there are a couple and moms are always looking for ways to provide for their kids after leaving a terrible situation. They not only WANT to work, they NEED to work. Just a thought...

We do have shelters. We try and work with them to get women into homes when we can (only issue is, our hands are sometimes tied due to our requirements, unless we can get them into a program that will be the "master" tenant for a while, which happens). A few of our current tenants work for these shelters and know when we have openings and keep their eyes out for women who might be qualified to work with us.

I'd be happy to hire someone trying to get out of a bad situation.

 

Can't talk about Insurance without getting political.

Self-employment through turk is hard because there are no benefits to it.

Puppies and kitties are cute.

I think I wanna take some ag classes and get the homestead up and running on top of doing mturk.

This was me for a few years when I was younger. The landlord owned a bar and I just worked there to pay off the rent

 

It's my current situation too. I only work at my office job because my boss is my landlord, so I just don't take a paycheck and he doesn't collect rent, but of course we still do a paper trail of payroll for taxes. Bartering ftw

 

Also...I rent my personal rental to an agency that helps people who need homes and would not otherwise qualify on their own (for many reasons, some are domestic violence issues, but a bunch are substance recovery issues or mental health). I have to keep my rents under market value as it's through HUD, but for now I can afford to do so (partly due to my mturk earnings)...so I'm 100% in on helping those in need when I can!

Some day I'll have to stop renting to them and raise rents as other costs keep going up (unless HUD raises its limits), but for now...I rent to them. 75% of the tenants are exceptionally hard on my rental, but the 25% that get help and do better? That's an awesome feeling to see someone's life turn around.

 

That's great! I was just wondering if you had thought of it. A lot of people don't. Not for any reasons, it just hadn't crossed their minds.

 

MTurk's fees are only 20%. Maybe a teeny, tiny portion of requesters actually pay the 40%. It's like their premium qual.. sure you can pay that much, but no one does in practice lol.

MTurk is dirt cheap for the most part.

I'm glad you mentioned it! If we don't find an employee soon when our tenants who work for shelters come by next week to pay rent we will mention it to them again, so you bringing it up reminded me that I should make a point to ask them (again) about any women they might know of who would be qualified!
