It's true. Husband grew up in the U.P. and there were hundreds in the fields. Not many natural predators up there in his years growing up. Black bear (who mostly ate at the town dump), some wolves, but not a ton, and wolverines, fischers, pine marten, etc. There used to be tons of them.
