totally totally understand. <3 they genuinely don't care because they're there to help, and you're certainly not alone, but i know that doesn't take away the anxiety.

i was mid-20s and had only had elementary school exams too. they didn't bat an eye (no pun intended), they treated me completely professionally. the old lady who gave me my glasses even teared up when i put them on and made a noticeable "holy crap" face and looked around in awe, she said that moment never got old for her.

 

You're my fav. I desperately need a dentist appointment too (which is even more scary, since I've never had glasses so it's excusable, but I've always had teeth) - it's been... nearly 13 years. My last regular dentist was my pediatric dentist (though I did see an adult dentist once in college).

 

oh i'm with you 100%. i actually started turking to save up for dental care until i needed turk as full time income instead. a friend was recently telling me about affordable options by going through colleges and stuff, and i was close to a panic attack just thinking about it so i asked politely to postpone the conversation with them. i have to, but... just... like... knock me out for a day+ and wake me up when it's done. the stigma (in both not getting dental care... or going and feeling embarrassed) is the worst with teeth, i feel you.

I had a work buddy when I was doing construction, who seemed to be having a little difficulty, but didn't want to think about it.
One day I lent him my safety glasses, which had a modest built-in bifocal component. He put them on, looked at something close,
and immediately reacted by saying "Oh bleep!". But ultimately he was glad to know that things could be better than he imagined.
