So I minorly hopped on the freak-out-need-hand-sanitizer band wagon today. Had to visit my HMO and was chatting up nurses (that'll scare ya). And realized my kid shoves food into his mouth from the school cafeteria every day and aren't high schools just excellent breeding grounds for all germs? And I'm positive he's not visiting the boy's room to scrub those hands for 30 seconds before eating.

Can't get travel hand sanitizer any more so I'm making my own. Much to my surprise, Walgreens still had all the ingredients in stock plus travel sized empty bottles.

If anyone else wants to make their own: 2/3 c at least 60% Isopropyl alcohol mixed with 1/3 c aloe vera gel. I might add a drop of lavender essential oil for smell.

Make sure you also get toilet paper, because that seems to be the new bread and milk here.

 

This is the only buying I've done in response to it and it's purely to get my kid some hand sanitizer. Which he always should have had just for gross factor but...I shoved food in my mouth all my school years without washing my hands first so I figured he'd live.

Now...we have a few cases surrounding us (not in my town, but not too far away really) so, better safe than sorry.

Though, I was eyeing some peanut butter the other day. It is the tiniest bit possible I'll slowly start throwing a few extra staples into my grocery cart over the next couple of weeks. Just. In. Case. I have an RO system at home so water won't be an issue.

By coincidence I just bought a bunch of that. And paper towels! And laundry detergent. I looked like I was prepping but I was legitimately just out of all the things all at once.

 

The entire cleaning section at Walmart is wiped out. I get wanting some lysol or something but why are people buying dawn dish soap in bulk?

I was surprised that Walgreens still had everything! All the sanitizer wipes, all the sprays, everything but the pump hand sanitizer gel. The lady said it was because people just came in there to get stuff they could easily carry around.

Check those Walgreens and CVS or Rite Aids. Apparently they still have a bunch of cleaning stuff as people aren't going there yet in their freak out mode.

And oh shit, I'm almost out of Dawn. I should get some before there's a run on it! I now dump some down the drain to keep grease from building up!

We do that with our Dawn too.. better get to the store fast!

Actually more specifically we keep some in the bathroom and add it to the toilet because 1800's plumbing leads from the street to our house. It was a tip we got from a plumber and after years of plumbing issues have not had one (knock on wood) since.
