03/09 - Multiple Monday

How to get all conversation in Starbucks to stop for 2.5 seconds? Take a big sip of your iced coffee, have it go down the wrong way, and have a coughing fit. They've resumed talking but I'm still getting some wary looks lol

 

I'm a code monkey. Haven't done of a bit of electrical engineering since I was an undergrad unless you count soldering new switches into a keyboard.

I feel like just sneezing in public now makes you look like you are about to destroy the continent.

 

I'm damn near always itchin' for a fight. But over someone's choice of go juice isn't worth it.

 

@samoth84 I know! This lady with a kid promptly got up and left. Now most likely it was a coincidence and she needed to go then, but I don't know...?!

This is one of the biggest headaches in my professional life. Engineers who have doctorates and are totally expert at the algorithms, and can actually program in Python - but don't actually understand why things like version control are important.

 

But it works for me!

 

That's very smart. I'm a freaking Amazon man. I'm 5 ft 11, and I grew up hanging out in Detroit. You do not want to mess with me lol

 

5'9 but one of the guys I used to sword fight against is like 7 feet tall. Detroit really doesn't mean much to me, 'cept I'll understand what you say cause Detroit is close enough to Flint, which is where my dad's family was from.

Ha! I was 4'11 until sophmore year of highschool.

Yeah I'm from Ann Arbor but I have a ton of cousins in Detroit so we were always hanging out there. I got into fights because of the way I talked (my brothers called me Hillary from Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, although I'm really not that bad) but between my ex-boxer father and my brothers, several who were in gangs (unfortunately) I knew how to handle myself! Still do.

 

I switched to CS for my masters and didn't learn a bit of any commercial protocols the whole time. I was trained to do research and now I am doing the same to my interns so the cycle of frustrated software dev managers may continue.
