I always make them this way:

but the fork is dipped in sugar to make the criss cross pattern.

 

I like the "three nested Rubbermaid containers with large holes bored into the bottom of them on one without holes" approach. Add a container to the top with some bedding, add food, they'll make their way to the top, then move the bottom one out and use the compost, repeat. And yeah, too deep becomes an anaerobic problem, for sure.

Thanks for that. I don't bake as a rule, but I'm picking up some parchment paper next time I'm at the store to try this out.

They're really good! Like I said, a bit more fragile, but they aren't going to crumble when you pick them up.

I do that every week. Every single week I meal plan Saturday morning then shop just for what we have for the next week. I don't keep a ton of extra around that could go bad, and I don't do a ton of convenience foods.

Now my kitchen looks llike nothing I recognize. And it's not the normal stuff I cook (mostly fresh ingredients which don't last long).

I can do this.

Last night it was chicken nuggets and french fries.

Tomorrow will be potstickers.

tonight...uh.....erm....uh....I think I have some frozen soup that I'll thaw out.
