For many, many years there has been an annual jazz and blues festival in a fairly northern part of New Zealand called the Bay of Islands. (My parents actually lived there for a few years.)

There also happens to be a vintage steam railway that runs through the bush up there. My dad, who is a long time train buff, was a volunteer and used to serve as the conductor sometimes.

I am unsure if this happened every year, but I went up to visit them a couple of times during the festival and they'd be running the train with three or four jazz bands playing on the train.

I find it hard to imagine a much better way to enjoy the day.
