ah. I'd attibute this to my bad eyesight. now that I see it up close, it IS a panda. I'll edit my last post to what I have below and hopefully close any pandoras boxes I may have opened:

That is kind of hard to stop. Almost as bad as egg eaters. You'd have to separate that one from the rest of them for a little while. That will give the rest of the flock time to establish a new "pecking order". Even then it may not stop.

@SunlitSunflower you can also put vaseline on the one that is being pecked. I know it sounds weird...but a friend of mine did that.

 

I never realized it was a panda either

 

I might try that and see if it helps. It only seems to be one chicken she's going after. All the other chickens defend themselves and don't put up with it! She's not drawn blood yet but we have blu-kote for if that happens.

 

It's a quick easy fix if it does work. Let me know how it turns out!

 

Will do! For now we are just spreading the food out really far so that they don't have to clump up to eat as that's the only time it seems to happen.
