Had to dispatch a snake.
We were out in the garden tending to the zucchini that are threatening to overtake everything when we noticed the chickens and ducks in a circle. The ducks are side eyeing the ground and the chickens are just kinda huddling around it watching. We stopped and just kinda watched them for a minute and asked each other 'wtf, maybe they found a mouse or a cool bug'. The duck does this strange side walk away and we looked at each other and were like 'SNAKE?!' He runs inside and grabs the pellet rifle while I go and get the chickens away from it. Sure enough, snake. Coiled to strike. In the hurry of it we miss-identify it as a cotton mouth. He kills it and we move it out of the chicken pen. We do some more research and it's a mole kingsnake. They shouldn't be up at this hour but we can't have it in the pen.
If we were quicker to identify it correctly we might have just yeeted it into the field across the road but with it being inside the chicken pen we had to be quick to put it out incase it was really a cotton mouth.
We felt bad so we went and grabbed a beer and poured some out for the little homie. I said a quick prayer for his little snake soul.
